Hilton Central Board of Education sets
tax rates for 2010-11
The Hilton Board of Education
approved the tax rates for residents of the Hilton
School District at their August 13, 2010 meeting. Tax
rates will show a minimal increase in Clarkson and
Greece, rates remaining flat in Parma and a
reduction in Hamlin which is experiencing its first
full-value assessment in 25 years. True value
remains the same for all four towns in the District
at 100%. In approving the tax rates the
Board accepted a change in the tax levy, decreasing
it by $400,000 by an offset of the same amount in
the fund balance, to reflect an adjusted levy of
$33,032,726. This year’s actual tax rates showed a
minimal increase over the projected rates due to a
lower than anticipated increase in assessments.
Dr. Steven Ayers, Assistant Superintendent for
Business, had recommended the fund balance offset to
minimize tax rate increase for residents. Budget
projections at the May vote were hampered by the
lack of a State budget, possible mid-year reductions
in school aid, and other personnel and retirement
considerations which were factored into the final
budget. For
