Hilton School Children honor those who
have served at Operation
Local Soldier Mar. 26, 2010 at Merton Williams Middle School
The fifth annual Operation Local
Soldier event was held March 26, 2010 at Hilton's Merton
Williams Middle School, 200 School La., Hilton, from 6 pm-9
pm. Members of the military currently or previously
serving were in atten dance including many Hilton sons and
daughters and local Gold Star families. Opening
ceremony, 6 pm-6:30 pm, celebrated the service and sacrifice
of our local heroes as well as those serving
overseas for dedication to our country according to event coordinator Amy Jensen Helmer.
Operation Local Soldier recognizes
members of area families serving in the military and li nks
school children to supportive activities. Students are
expected to rotate to three activity centers: swimming in
the pool, climbing the rock wall and writing letters to the
troops/making a craft for the children living in Afghanistan
and Iraq.
Student activities run from 6:30 pm to 9 pm.
