Newly developing technologies expand the possibilities for
composing in multiple media and for speaking to wider

before in our history. To draw attention to the remarkable
variety of writing engaged in and to help make writers from
all walks of life aware of their craft, the National Council
of Teachers of English has established October 20, 2009, as
the National Day on Writing. Special guests included
Rochester storytellers and authors Rafe Martin, Sonja
Livingston, Kathleen Blasi and Leah Ruekberg, children's book publisher Suzanne
Meyer, along with Katie Paxton-Johnson, right, Pat Martin and Mary McAlpin.
Students will publish personal writing that will be appear
in a school wide book.
"Writing is a daily practice for
millions of Americans. But few notice how integral writing
has become to daily life in the 21st century," says the
NCTE. Hilton CSD Director of
Elementary Education Mark Bower was event coordinator.
