Kids are writing more than ever with new technologies; elementary students participate in National Day on Writing October 20; coordinator is Director of Elementary Education Mark Bower

NATIONAL DAY ON WRITING VIDEO

Hilton Elementary Students participated in the National Day on Writing October 20, 2009   Newly developing technologies expand the possibilities for composing in multiple media and for speaking to wider audiences than ever before and at a faster pace than ever before in our history.  To draw attention to the remarkable variety of writing engaged in and to help make writers from all walks of life aware of their craft, the National Council of Teachers of English has established October 20, 2009, as the National Day on Writing.  Special guests included Rochester storytellers and authors Rafe Martin, Sonja Livingston, Kathleen Blasi and Leah Ruekberg, children's book publisher Suzanne Meyer, along with Katie Paxton-Johnson, right, Pat Martin and Mary McAlpin.  Students will publish personal writing that will be appear in a school wide book.

"Writing is a daily practice for millions of Americans. But few notice how integral writing has become to daily life in the 21st century," says the NCTE.   Hilton CSD Director of Elementary Education Mark Bower was event coordinator.  Tips for Writers  

For more:  About the Initiative along with position statements.  The House of Representatives will be considering a resolution declaring October 20, 2009, the National Day on Writing.
