Hilton Community
gets involved in “Make A Difference Day” October 24, 2009
The Hilton community pulled together in “Make A Difference Day” this October 24, 2009
with teams of students, staff, teachers and community
members came together to improve the community according
to Hilton High School Principal Brian Bartalo and
Hilton-P arma Chamber of Commerce member George Kauffman.
"Our goal is to make our community a better place to live by
helping those who need it the most," Mr. Kauffman said. "We
will all be wearing lime green t-shirts purchased with
don ations from the Hilton-Parma Chamber, the Village of
Hilton and the Town of Parma. We also received
donations from area businesses including Furnals' Big-M,
Home Depot and RM Landscaping. We encourage everyone
to get involved."
Among the projects to be performed are:
building a raised garden bed for a senior citizen residence
in Hilton; trail improvement at Cranberry Pond; assisting at
a blood drive at Hilton High School; preparing care packages
for members of the military; assisting in winter preparation
of athletic fields on the school campus; participating in a
food drive; cleaning wheelchairs for a medical loan closet;
and helping collect recycled electronic equipment.
Make A Difference Day,
sponsored by USA WEEKEND, is the most encompassing national day
of helping others, a celebration of neighbors helping
neighbors. Millions
have participated. In 2008, t hree million people cared
enough about their communities to volunteer on that day,
accomplishing thousands of projects in hundreds of towns.
These groups are working
together to give back to the Parma and Hilton community:
Hilton High School students; Hilton- Parma Chamber of
Commerce; Hilton Community Churches; Hilton Education
Foundation; Town of Greece; Town of Hamlin; Town of Parma;
Lions Club; Hilton-Parma Recreation; Hilton Rotary; Village
