Hilton's Northwood Elementary Flag Day continues decade-long tradition

Hilton's Northwood Elementary School celebrated its 11th Annual Flag Day Monday, June 14, 2010, in a tradition that grows each year.  Students, teachers, staff and many veterans and their families were in attendance as well as civic leaders from Hilton, Parma, Greece and the surrounding area.

 Veterans raised the flag and honored the colors.   Assistant Principal Karen Bolinger was mistress-of-ceremonies. 

Students recited the Pledge of Allegiance, sang patriotic songs and honored with bouquets to Gold Star Mothers Rita Hasenauer and Mary Ellen Schramm who were in attendance.  Many of Northwood's caring community were also recognized including Amy Jensen-Helmer for receiving the NYSUT Community Service Award; Coordinator Deb Valentine for working with students to raise over $3,700 for St. Jude's Chidren's Research Hospital through the Math-A-Thon among others.

Students were dressed in red, white and blue; held hand-made and other flags.  Music was performed by the Northwood Advanced Band including taps.  For further information: 585-392-1000 ext. 4522.
