Northwood Elementary School holds 4th
Annual Disability Awareness Day; students learn to live for
a moment with a disability, then learn about the aids which
help children overcome them
Northwood Elementary School
students warmly received visitors from Rochester's
Advocacy Center
on December 8, 2011 to celebrate National Disability Awareness
Day and learn about the struggles and opportunities for
challenged students.
Students worked with Advocacy Center
volunteers to experience first-hand the way disabilities can
hamper movement, sight and learning, then how these
difficulties are overcome. In the course of the event,
students' perception about those who have different mobility,
learning and other struggles, is softened in an effort to
prevent stigmatization.
Coordinator is School Nurse
Angie Grasso
