Hilton High School recent graduates talk
about college athletic experiences Jan. 4 at Hilton HS
A “College Athlete Panel” p resented
voices of experience to Hilton student athletes
regarding the expectations of being a college
student athlete "We had our first College Athlete
Panel for our current student athletes on January 4
in the High School auditorium," said Hilton High
School Athletic Director Michael Giruzzi.
"There were eight former Hilton CSD student athletes
presenting to around 150 current student athletes.
The college athletes spoke about their experiences
being a student and an athlete at the collegiate
level. They responded to questions such as
How did you choose the school and level (D1, D2, D3
etc.) that you currently (or have played)? What are
the expectations from your coaches regarding
practice and play at your school? How do you balance
studies and athletics, especially in season?"
The panel consisted of: Alex Ruta,
Class of 2010 football at Utica College (D3); Cal Palumbo,
Class of 2007 volleyball at Springfield College (D3); Beth
Haight, Class of 2008 field hockey player at Franklin and
Pierce (D2); Duell Smith, Class of 2010 football at Marist
College (D1) Brian Duffy, Class of 2008 soccer at SUNY
Brockport (D3); Jon Schwind, Class of 2008 baseball player
at Marist College(D1) and current professional baseball
player; Ashley Jones, Class of 2008 cross country/indoor and
outdoor track at SUNY Geneseo (D3); Shelby Herman Class of
2008 cross country/indoor and outdoor track at Cornell
University (D1).
