Northwood Elementary recognized with
"Champion of Character" Award
Northwood Elementary School has
received recognition at the Sixth Annual "Champions of
Character "Awards hosted by
The
Academy For Character Education at The Sage Colleges in
Troy, New York March 18, 2009. The school received a
"School Committed to Character Education" plaque for its
long commitment to character education according to
Assistant Principal Karen Bolinger.
"Hundreds of teachers, professors,
administrators, parents, politicians, community members and
board of education members were also honored for their
leadership in the character education initiative in New York
State," Mrs. Bolinger said.
"Fifteen schools were honored in New
York state. Northwood students are being recognized
for exhibiting outstanding character traits as well as our
rich history of character education and infusion of Positive
Behavior Intervention and Supports [PBIS]
into the school culture. Our district goals have encouraged
us to develop respectful, productive and responsible
citizens which we have sustained since 1999. We have
embedded character education in every aspect of our school
philosophy and actions," she said.
