Northwood Elementary recognized with "Champion of Character" Award

Northwood Elementary School has received recognition at the Sixth Annual "Champions of Character "Awards hosted by The Academy For Character Education at The Sage Colleges in Troy, New York March 18, 2009.  The school received a "School Committed to Character Education" plaque for its long commitment to character education according to Assistant Principal Karen Bolinger.

"Hundreds of teachers, professors, administrators, parents, politicians, community members and board of education members were also honored for their leadership in the character education initiative in New York State," Mrs. Bolinger said.

"Fifteen schools were honored in New York state.  Northwood students are being recognized for exhibiting outstanding character traits as well as our rich history of character education and infusion of Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports [PBIS] into the school culture. Our district goals have encouraged us to develop respectful, productive and responsible citizens which we have sustained since 1999.  We have embedded character education in every aspect of our school philosophy and actions," she said.
