Lesson in Washington, DC
creates memories for a lifetime; 2010 Trip set for Maty
11-14
Merton Williams Middle School eighth
grade students have the opportunity each spring to visit the
nation's capitol. The 2010 Trip is set for May 11-14:
Washington Trip Information.
Last year, more than 250 students went to
Washington May 12-15, 2009 with teachers, parents and
administrators as chaperones.
Students raise funds
throughout the year with magazine drives and other
fund-raisers according to trip co ordinators Angela Bocuzzi-Reichert,
Library Media Specialist and teacher Colleen Grego.
Students are required to keep a journal of the trip
recording information and experiences about US history and
government.
Among the sites visited were: Arlington
National Cemetery, the FDR Monument, Ford's Theatre, the
Jefferson Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, the Lincoln
Memorial, the Marine Corps Memorial, the National Cathedral,
the National Holocaust Museum, the National Museum of
American History, the National Museum of History, the
Smithsonian Institution, the National Zoo, the Vietnam
Memorial, the Vietnam Wall Memorial, the Vietnam Women's
Memorial, War II Memorial, and the Washington Monument. The
Washington trip is a highly-anticipated event for Merton
Williams students. Some students
were allowed into the Capitol Rotunda. Others participated
in a folklore tour of Alexandra, Virginia. The culminating
event is a dinner dance and memories for a lifetime.
