Hilton CSD Policy 8272 is the Acceptable
District Computer Services Use and Internet Filtering
The Board of Education sets policy in
the Hilton Central School District. Policy 8272 and
6153R are the Acceptable District Computer Services Use and
Internet Filtering as well as the Acceptable Internet /Email
Use:
SUBJECT: ACCEPTABLE
INTERNET/EMAIL USE Ensuring Privacy: The Hilton Central School District is
committed to ensuring the privacy of all our website users
and the accuracy of all data within it. As we strive to
maintain the currency of all data contained within the
website, no data within the website is guaranteed or deemed
reliable. The District provides Internet filtering as part
of the District Computer Services; however, no filtering
technology can guarantee that staff and students will be
prevented from accessing all inappropriate locations.
Monitoring The
users shall understand that communications on the District
Computer Services are often public in nature. These services
are monitored routinely by the school district, Internet
providers and/or law enforcement agencies. Hilton CSD Policy
8272 states: the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) shall cover any
user of District Computer Services (DC Services).
"DC Services" includes any and all access
to the District network and District approved services. All
users, including but not limited to, educators, support
staff, parents and their children shall read, discuss and
understand this AUP before using DC Services. All users, as
well as parents or guardians of minor children, should
confirm their understanding of this AUP periodically. DC
Services allows access to the Internet, which is a worldwide
electronic network of computers allowing users to
communicate electronically, share information, learn
concepts and research subjects. Students should be
encouraged to utilize these resources to promote the
exchange of information to further education and research
and to facilitate academic development, personal growth and
respect for diversity through technology use, information
gathering, critical thinking, evaluation, and communication
skills.

SUBJECT: ACCEPTABLE
INTERNET/EMAIL USE The Hilton Central
School District has adopted this Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)
for student and professional use of the Internet and email.
It is important that educators, support staff, parents and
their children read, discuss and understand this AUP before
using Internet/email services. The internet is an
electronic network of computers with millions of
participants worldwide who could electronically communicate,
share information, learn concepts and research subjects.
Increasing numbers of school, libraries, government agencies
and commercial and non-profit organizations offer
Internet/email services. Staff and students need to be
encouraged to utilize Internet/email services to promote the
exchange of information and further education and research
in accordance with the goals of the Hilton Central Schools.
It should also facilitate academic development, personal
growth and respect for diversity through technology use,
information gathering, critical thinking, evaluation skills
and communication skills. Use of the Internet should promote
freedom of access to information as a fundamental right of
citizens in a democratic society.
Responsibilities of the School
District Use of the Internet/email is an
educational and professional opportunity, which comes with
responsibilities and consequences for users. Access to
Internet/email services is provided to students and staff
who act in a considerate, responsible and ethical manner.
The following items outline basic responsibilities of the
Hilton Central School District: • Educators are
responsible for development of research skills for students
to access the Internet. • Research skills currently
taught through the public school curriculum, such as
selection and critical evaluation of source material, apply
to electronic media in the same manner as traditional print
materials. • The Hilton Central School District will
make every reasonable effort to reduce the risk of student
exposure to objectionable material. • We will presume
that you as a parent of a District student support this
policy and your child’s responsible use of the
Internet/email. If not, you will notify your child’s
principal that you prefer that he/she not be provided with
this educational opportunity.
User Responsibility
• Users will not communicate inaccurate, inflammatory or
offensive ideas or language over the Internet or district
email. • Users will not access the Internet/email for
exchange of offensive material of any kind (verbal, visual
or auditory). • Users will not use Internet/email for
private, commercial, political or religious purposes or any
illegal activity. • Users will conform to copyright
laws regarding reasonable use. Users will be
courteous, sensitive and considerate of others. If in doubt
about a message, do not send it. • Users will never give any
password to others. • Users will never give out their home
address, phone number or those of anyone else. • Users are
to report any problems or violations to school officials
immediately. • Users must understand that communications on
the Internet/email are often public in nature and are
monitored routinely by the school district, Internet
providers and/or law enforcement agencies such as the
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Federal
Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Consequences •
Disciplinary actions regarding inappropriate staff use of
email or internet access will be determined by the district
building level consistent with existing practices. •

not be limited to loss of Internet/email access privileges,
restitution for expenses accrued to investigate and correct
system problems, and/or suspension. • When applicable, law
