NEW NYS DMV LAW   Under the new law, teens younger than 18 are required to hold a learner's permit for six months before they can schedule a road test to get a license.  The law also increases the number of training hours from 20 to 50, with at least 15 hours of night-time driving; reduces the number of non-family passengers younger than 21 allowed in the vehicle from two to one; and bans teens from using any portable electronic devices, handheld or not.   NEW TEEN DRIVING LAW  in effect February 22, 2010

Attendance Policy: The New York State Department of Education requires that you attend all classes and vehicle driving labs.  All students must attend 24 hours of classes and 24 hours of driving in-vehicle. The program includes a written exam and driving skills tests. Failure to meet these requirements will result in course failure and denial of your MV-285 [completion certificate] and insurance certificate.  Neither work, vacation nor extracurricular activities are acceptable excuses for your missing a driver education lecture or lab.  All missed classes or drives must be made up and a fee of $25 per missed classroom or vehicle drive [$50 if both are missed] payable to Hilton CSD Community Education and mailed to 225 West Ave., Hilton, NY 14468.  ALL MISSED CLASSES AND DRIVES ARE RESCHEDULED WITH YOUR INSTRUCTOR [not Hilton Community Education].  A student with three absences risks being removed from the program.  Driver Education requires commitment on the part of students and parents to fulfill the NYS DMV course requirements.  No refunds will be given once the session begins.
