Learning Through Technology

Learning Through Technology Department is located at 225 West Ave., Hilton, NY 14468. 

The Learning Through Technology Department includes a staff of 10 including instructional technology teachers, network and systems administrators, technicians and computer help desk staff.  LTT is responsible for long-range technology planning; management of  the HCSD portal to Infinite Campus; presenting staff development courses on technology integration; maintaining the HCSD Intranet [available to HCSD staff only]; maintenance, installation and upgrades to the district's electronic learning technology .  Innovations in educational technology such as the electronic whiteboard extend and enhance learning . - read more -

FRAMEWORK FOR 21ST CENTURY LEARNING

HCS District Web Site and Student access to the Internet  The Hilton School District Web Site posts classroom web pages monitored by the Learning Through Technology Department and the Office of District Communications.  The Hilton Central School District Web Site  www.hilton.k12.ny.us is a presence on the world wide web and it provides district information with links to teacher and classroom websites.   FCC - Children's Internet Protection Act [CIPA]  and FTC - Children's Online Privacy Protection Act  [COPPA] are federal guidelines in this area which protect children with regard to electronic media.  COPPA allows, but does not require, schools to act as agents for parents in providing consent for the online collection of students’ personal information within the school context:  www.ftc.gov/os/1999/10/64fr59888.pdf   Schools also must consider their obligations under the Dept. of Education - Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act [FERPA] which is administered by the U.S. Department of Education.

Internet/Email Acceptable Use Policy 8272   The Hilton Central School District provides access to the Internet.  Students are encouraged to utilize these resources to promote the exchange of information to further education and research. The District provides Internet filtering as part of the District Computer Services; however, no filtering technology can guarantee that staff and students will be prevented from accessing all inappropriate locations. The users shall understand that communications on the District Computer Services are often public in nature.  These services are monitored routinely by the School District, Internet providers, and/or law enforcement agencies. The District's Acceptable Use Policy and accompanying Regulations will be disseminated to parents and students in order to provide notice of the school's requirements, expectations, and student's obligations when accessing the Internet.  "Passive Consent" [Opt-out]: Student access to the District's computer system will automatically be provided unless the parent has submitted written notification to the District that such access not be permitted. A written request to deny or rescind student use of District computers must be mailed to the Office of Instruction, 225 West Ave., Hilton, NY 14468. For further information: 585-392-1000 ext. 6058.

Classroom Web Sites: Teachers, students, teams and classes have created web sites which are posted on the District web site at Classroom-Websites  Registration for training is provided by Hilton Staff Development and instructors from Learning Through Technology.  Classroom web sites may go online using the process developed by the Office of Learning Through Technology.  For further information, call 585-392-1000 ext. 7022.

 Legal Concerns: There is only one official Hilton Central School District Web Site. Sites on external servers are unofficial and are not protected by District liability.   The Hilton School District

Photographs on the Web: Group photos of students are preferable: no names; no first and last names; avoid personal information which would link specific student to a time and place. Preferable: no head shots, no names, no first and last names, avoid personal information which would link specific student to a time and place unless bona fide news event covered by First Amendment protection.  For further information, call 585-392-1000 ext. 7045.

HCSD Technology Incentive Hilton teachers may participate in a Technology Incentive which further extends classroom activities into electronic media as well as offers teachers instruction in creating classroom websites through SchoolCenter [accessible to Hilton staff only].
