CHILDREN ABOUT H1N1

These are the recommendations from the
Monroe County Health Department: asking parents to keep ill
children home; asking staff to stay home if ill; monitoring
students daily for signs of illness; reinforcing the Center
for Disease Control’s (CDC) healthy practices described
below with students and staff.; maintaining a regular
cleaning schedule of all facilities and equipment.
Parents can monitor symptoms. If your child is ill we
ask that you to keep him or her at home until fully
recovered.
- If your child is ill or you
suspect your child is coming down with the flu, it is
essential that he/she remain home in order to avoid
exposure to other people. Flu-like symptoms include:
-
- Fever over 100 degrees F
- Feverishness
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Runny or stuffy nose ·
- Any or all of the above in
conjunction with a recent travel history
- Additional H1N1 flu symptoms
may include:
- muscle pain
- fatigue
- vomiting or diarrhea
- If your child is an allergy
sufferer exhibiting some of these symptoms but without
fever your child may attend school.
Centers
for Disease Control [CDC] recommendations include:
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when
you cough or sneeze.
- Throw the tissue in the trash after you use
it. Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially
after you cough or sneeze.
- Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also
effective.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
Germs spread this way.
- Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
If you get sick with influenza, CDC
recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit
contact with others to keep from infecting them.
